The busy translator’s guide to summer style

Το καλοκαίρι, εκτός από τις τέλειες βραδιές που περνάμε με σορτς και ένα t-shirt ή ένα απλό φορεματάκι, γίνονται όλοι οι γάμοι, βαφτίσεις, πάρτι και δεξιώσεις που κανονικά θα έπρεπε να γίνονται το χειμώνα που βαριόμαστε –  μια που στη χώρα μας όμως το καλοκαίρι είναι ο άξονας γύρω από τον οποίο περιστρέφεται η διψασμένη για ήλιο και θάλασσα ύπαρξή μας, πέφτουν όλα μαζί!

 

Επειδή όμως δεν έχουμε χρόνο (και ούτε πολύ χρήμα, εδώ που τα λέμε) για ψώνια και (περιττή) πολυτέλεια και τα deadline μας κυνηγάνε πιο επίμονα κι από τις διαφημίσεις για κρέμες αδυνατίσματος, η λύση είναι

Η καρδιά μιας γυναίκας…

…είναι τα βιβλία! Εντάξει και τα ταξίδια 🙂 Και τα γλυκά, και τα παπούτσια και …. εντάξει σταματάω. Αλλά μερικές φορές ακόμα και λίγες μέρες (ή και λίγες ώρες) αρκούν για να αλλάξεις παραστάσεις και να ξεφύγεις λίγο 🙂

Casual Friday

Ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου είδη αναρτήσεων είναι το Casual Friday 🙂 Μπορώ να ανεβάζω ό,τι μου κατέβει, από daydreaming για ταξίδια μέχρι διάφορα που είδα και μου άρεσαν και ελπίζω να μου πάρει κάποιος (γκουχ, γκουχ) δώρο (γκουχ, γκουχ) όπως αυτή η τέλεια κούπα για τον καφέ μου 🙂

Επίσης θα ήθελα να με καλέσει κάποιος σε ένα κοκτέιλ πάρτι για να μπορέσω να βάλω αυτά τα ρούχα:

προς το παρόν ας πιω το δεύτερο καφεδάκι της ημέρας! Καλό Σ/Κ σε όλους!!!!

London Top 5 – 2015

If there were 5 things you could choose from the thousands of experiences London has to offer…. what would they be?

For me, it is different each time: when I was studying there I would have chosen different things, in Spring I would prefer others and in winter my choices would come out completely different! It also depends on my mood. I just spent 3 days in London and I could say that my favorite things this time were:

1. Carnaby street: The small indie shops, the happy Christmas lights and the fabulous, heartwarming atmosphere! 

2. Bookshops: I really like indie bookshops and I was very sad because I didn’t have much time to browse and explore them properly! I spotted a few impressive Waterstones windows though and picked up a couple of nice magazines from WHSmith 😉

3. Food for the soul: Hearty soups, pies and the best breakfast ever!

   

   

4. Cupcakes: from Hummingbird Bakery in Notting Hill, Harrods or Fortnum & Mason, I just ❤ Love ❤ cupcakes! Red velvet and Gingerbread were my favorite this time 🙂 

5. The country: autumn leaves and ombre trees just make my heart swell with happiness!

   

   

    

London is always a beautiful place and it really has to offer whatever your heart is seeking: shopping, relaxing, dining, day trips. My trip wasn’t the relaxing strolling about I was planning but I choose to remember the cool things I did and saw and not the anxiety and anger from the Paris attacks and recent terrorism. 

What about you? Is there anything that you almost always do when in London or are there things you’re 100% positive that make your Top 5 all the time?

Two for Tuesday

Today I’m sharing some delicious coffee and macarons (a quaint little patisserie shop called Pure has opened in Rhodes and I’m obsessed with their white chocolate and cranberry cookies!)

And a sneak peak from something new that I have been working on with a close friend of mine 🙂 I’m super excited about this project and I hope we will be launching soon!

International Frankfurt Book Fair 2015 basics

Frankfurt Book Fair is a yearly event for book professionals – publishers, agents, scouts, rights managers, translators and more! A major event for the literary world where deals are finalized, parties are thrown and hours are spent negotiating, book scouting, ideas generating! 🙂 THE place to be each October. Here’s the basics:

Opening: The first three days are restricted exclusively to trade visitors; the general public can attend on the last two.

Exhibitors: Over 7 000 exhibitors from more than 106 countries make Frankfurt the international hub of the publishing industry. 

Guests of Honor: Every year a special guest of honor  is chosen by the Fair organizers and a lot of events take place: readings, arts exhibitions, public discussion panels, theatre productions, and radio and TV programmes. Why Frankfurt? The history of the Frankfurt Book Fair dates back to the 15th century, when Johannes Gutenberg first invented movable type – only a few kilometres down the road from Frankfurt, in Mainz.

If you add the breathtaking beauty of Frankfurt and some of the delicious food described in Frankfurt Top 5 you can have a wonderful working holiday (be prepared for a lot of hard work, though, hours and meetings can be excruciating)!

 

September Colors Make Me Dream of….

I just can’t wait for the weather to get a liiiiittle bit colder! I’m already dreaming of hot Sunday coffees, soft scarves and autumn leaves! Or putting on these gorgeous scarves and reading my book in a cafe next to a river, the forest or a small city cafe in Amsterdam!

These are the colors of Fall 2015 and I absolutely love them!!!

Αυτά τα χρώματα είναι σε όλα μα όλα τα μαγαζιά και τα βρίσκω υπέροχα! Νομίζω ότι ταιριάζουν σε όλες τις κοπέλες και γλυκαίνουν κάθε πρόσωπο 🙂 Φαντάζομαι ότι τα φοράω και πηγαίνω σε ένα μικρό καφέ δίπλα στο ποτάμι, ή στο δάσος, ανοιγω το βιβλίο μου και πίνω το καπουτσίνο μου…

Books for my road trip

1. After the crash, Michel Bussi / Το κορίτσι της πτήσης 5403

22 Δεκεμβρίου 1980

Το αεροπλάνο που εκτελεί την πτήση 5403 πέφτει στα γαλλοελβετικά σύνορα και τυλίγεται στις φλόγες. 168 από τους 169 επιβάτες σκοτώνονται ακαριαία. Σώζεται μόνο ένα κοριτσάκι τριών μηνών. Δύο οικογένειες το διεκδικούν, και δεν υπάρχει τρόπος να διαπιστωθεί η ταυτότητά του. Έτσι ξεκινάει μια διαμάχη που θα διαρκέσει σχεδόν δύο δεκαετίες.

Ακούγεται μυστηριώδες, δεν έχω διαβάσει όμως καμία κριτική και ανησυχώ. Να το ψάξω λίγο περισσότερο;

Μου άρεσαν τα βιβλία της με την επιθεωρητή Βέρα Στάνχοπ και τώρα έχω ξεκινήσει αυτό. Ωραίο για το αεροπλάνο 🙂

3. The god of small things by Arundadi Roy / Ο θεός των μικρών πραγμάτων, Αρουντάτι Ρόι

Το πήρα για δώρο αλλά νομίζω ότι είναι μια καλή ευκαιρία να το ξαναδιαβάσω κι εγώ. Ό,τι πρέπει για ένα ταξίδι μέσα στη φύση!
